Key, accompanied by gifted musicians, takes her own gifted vocal and compositional craft into a wide range of genres with perfection. She, in precision and interpretation that are without compare, takes religious verses and transforms them into musical beauty. The opening track, "Rose of Love" is a slow jazz piano shuffle that features Key's gentle, vulnerable, yet precise and commanding upper alto. The following track, "Trees of My Garden," gets things grooving with a funky jazz-guitar based mover - clean and tasty. Key continues to mix it up with "Backbiting" as the genre moves to rock crunch with vocals that remind us a bit of Alanis. A musician can't abandon jazz for too long, and back comes a slow AOR 70's folk jazz guitar love song with "Prayer for Husbands." The title track, "Intone," is nothing short of amazing beauty. Nothing inspires musical love and performance like faith - and Katharine Key has blessedly delivered a complete and superb collection.
